#readingroom делимся англоязычной литературой Moscow: Soviet Modernist Architecture 1955–1991 The first guidebook to Soviet Modernist architecture compiled by the architectural historians Anna Bronovitskaya and Nikolai Malinin, includes almost 100 buildings from the most famous landmarks to barely noticable but no less important monuments. Here are the facts about the Seasons of the year café that is now more recognizable as a Garage Museum of Contemporary Art ---> 👉The park had to be cleared of 'small temporary structures' in order to construct a building of 'metropolitan scale' and install wide new esplanades. 👉The neat parallelepiped on cantilevers above a ground floor made of shining glass, stemalite, and aluminum looked impressive, although even in 1968 a reviewer timidly pointed out that the architecture was not exactly suitable for a park, and that it would be better to break up the expanse of the walls with an open terrace and exterior stairs. According to the architects' logic it was more important to make maximum use of the location of the building, opening up views of the park from the rooms on the first floor. 👉In the 1980s, centralized supply became increasingly unreliable, and when perestroika resulted in private entrepreneurs being admitted to the park, visitors flocked to them. In the conditions of a market economy the cafe failed, and the abandoned building waited its turn to be demolished. 🍬With the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, the building received a new lease of life buy a book here
