Pavel Kuznetsov Few abstracts from the book: For decades Melnikov tried to conceptualise his project and formulate the guiding principle in concise form. His aphoristic formula of 1961 states: 'EQUIVALENCE AND EQUABILITY of 1) weight 2) light 3) air and 4) heat'. And this is how Melnikov himself described the house: 'A public exhibit of 1920s Soviet architecture with unique significance for the residential dwelling. This experimental-model house organises the work of all the structures, distributing stress both vertically (by the walls), and horizontally (interfloor covering), equally throughout the volume of the building. In the walls the stress is distributed along the oblique network of the cylinder, while the floor also has no concentration of tension, consisting of a latticed, girderless, single organic board forming a circle.'
