🇭🇷 Question to HRT Regarding the Report on the “Living Classics” Contest https://youtu.be/QfOpdrE0HnY?feature=shared Dear HRT Editorial Team, We have carefully reviewed your report on the 12th annual children and youth event Living Classics in Čakovec, organized by the Russian-speaking community association Kalinka. The description of the event states that it is held in 80 countries around the world and that it has a single goal: promoting Russian culture and language among young people. However, your report omits a critical detail — the main prize for the winners is a trip to the children's camp Artek, located in occupied Crimea. This is clearly stated in a public Facebook post by one of the organizers, Irina Ilyash, dated November 15, 2024: 🔗https://www.facebook.com/share/p/12Fci6N8PqG/ 🇺🇦 Entering Crimea through Russian territory violates Ukrainian law. Moreover, the children cross the border via the Crimean Bridge — an object that is officially considered a legitimate military target by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 📍 Example: On June 3, 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) claimed responsibility for a successful sabotage operation that damaged the underwater section of the Crimean Bridge using 1,100 kg of explosives. Source: Reuters This means that the contest organizers not only incite minors to violate Ukrainian law but also knowingly expose them to danger. 💬 In this context, we address the following questions to you: • Were HRT staff aware of the exact destination of the contest winners covered in the report? • If HRT was aware, why was it not mentioned in the segment that Artek is located in occupied Crimea? • Do you believe it is appropriate to promote such events through Croatian public media, considering the official position of the Republic of Croatia in support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity? 📌 Context and precedents: Similar contests organized by pro-Russian associations such as Kalinka in Croatia have already raised international concern. In 2019, a Russian cultural project titled The Russian Footprint in the History of Your Country was held in Slovenia, also involving children. Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official note of protest, stating that such initiatives serve as tools for Russia to increase its influence in the international community and aim to legitimize all actions related to Ukrainian Crimea.
