πŸ“±Meta is removing end-to-end encryption from Instagram DMs starting May 8, 2026. Without this protection, Meta will be able to access the contents of private messages stored on its servers. At the same time, πŸ“± has recently introduced end-to-end encryption for direct messages and is gradually expanding the feature to more users. In other words, πŸ“± appears to be moving toward stronger privacy protections, while Meta is stepping away from them. The timing has raised questions.
