#Announcement 🦮🦮🦮🛷 On February 8,Beringia-2026– renowned dog-sled race held in Russia's Kamchatka –kicks off. Held since 1990, the race has become a true hallmark of Kamchatka Krai and one of the peninsula’s main winter events. 🌏 The event traditionally gathers not only Russian participants, but also international guests, including those from Belarus, China, Peru, Latvia and Ghana. This season, spectators and participants of the winter festival can look forward to a wide range of exciting events, including: • February 8-14 – sport and tourism sled-dog event Beringia-Avacha • February 14-15 – regional sled-dog competitions, the children’s race Beringia-Dyulin • February 21 – the winter sports festival Snowy Trail • February 28 – the national sports festival Yelizovsky Sprint • February 28 – March 25 – the main race of the winter festival, Beringia 🐾 Hosting large-scale festivals such as Beringia fosters dog breeding in the region, supports youth sled-dog sports, and creates new opportunities for community engagement and tourism. Today, the region hosts several major sled-dog kennels that function both as training bases for mushers and their teams and as attractive tourist and educational sites. 💡 That's interesting: • a team traditionally consists of 8-14 dogs, pulling more than 100 kg including the musher’s weight; • during the race, the four-legged athletes spend about 70% of the race in motion without full ground contact; • the average team speed is 14-16 km/h; • racers cover approximately 40-100 km per day; • in 1991, Beringia was introduced into the Guinness World Records as the longest dog-sled race in the world, and in 2018 it was recognized as the longest dog-sled race in Russia (entered into the Russian Book of Records). *** In previous years, the Beringia route changed many times, but it always passed through areas inhabited by the peninsula’s indigenous and small-numbered peoples, where festivities and folk celebrations were organized for the occasion. In 2026, the distance of the main route "Unified Kamchatka. 19 Years Together", starting in the village of Esso and finishing in the settlement of Ust-Kamchatsk, totals 1,425 km. 🏔 The combination of extreme sport and the distinctive culture of Kamchatka’s indigenous peoples defines the race’s unique character and reflects the authentic spirit of the North. #Beringia2026 📸©️Vasily Rusin
