📆April 30 — Day of Indigenous Peoples of the Russian Federation Today, Russia marks a new national holiday established by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, signed on November 4, 2025, “On the Day of Indigenous Peoples of the Russian Federation.” The date coincides with the adoption in 1999 of the federal law “On Guarantees of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of the Russian Federation.” 🇷🇺 Around 200 ethnic groups live in Russia in peace and harmony, 47 of which are classified as Indigenous small-numbered peoples. Their unique cultures, languages, traditional lifestyles, and crafts are an integral part of Russia’s historical and spiritual heritage. ❗️Preserving their ancestral habitats, supporting traditional ways of life, and ensuring their rights and legitimate interests remain key national priorities. Russia consistently develops international cooperation in this field, including within the framework of theInternational Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022–2032). 📚 To support these efforts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, in cooperation with the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North (RAIPON) and Russian Committee for the UNESCO Information for All Programme, has prepared a dedicated collection of documents “#ChartersOfNorthernPeoples”, reflecting legal mechanisms for the protection and support of Indigenous peoples. 🤝 Supporting Indigenous peoples contributes to strengthening interethnic harmony, preserving cultural diversity, and ensuring sustainable development.
