Machado stated that Venezuela can count on President Trump for its freedom. This meeting signals continued U.S. interest in Venezuelan affairs. Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez stated, “Let’s not fear diplomacy...” Rodríguez added that if she had to go to Washington, she would go "standing and walking, not dragged." U.S. Senators also met with Machado. Machado stated that President Trump is committed to the freedom of all political prisoners in Venezuela and to the freedom of all Venezuelans. Trump called Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodríguez “a terrific person”. CIA Director John Ratcliffe met Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodríguez in Caracas. The parties reaffirmed the Trump administration's view of the interim government as the best path to stability. They also discussed intelligence cooperation, economic stability, and preventing Venezuela from being a safe haven for drug traffickers.
