Yes, Sputnik V is a genetic vaccine: there are many zany tales on the internet about how Sputnik V is an "old-fashioned" vaccine based on a proven platform. This is simply not true. In November 2021, Russia's health minister Mikhail Murashko said Sputnik V uses "genetic technologies." A patent application from 2012 for Gamaleya’s influenza shot (which used the same Ad5 adenovirus vector as Sputnik V, and was never approved for use) described the drug as a “genetic vaccine.” Is Sputnik V safe, even though it's based on an unproven genetic platform? There is a large body of evidence that suggests: no, not at all. But it's hard to say for sure because Russia has no VAERS-like system for reporting/viewing post-vaccination complications. Russia's health ministry won't even disclose the most recent clinical trial data for Sputnik V, declaring this information a "confidential trade secret." Safe & effective💉🤝
