This article perfectly articulates why it's unwise to gloat about inflation -- anywhere. Whether it's in the United States, the EU, or Russia. Inflation is bad for everyone. It's especially bad for the most vulnerable: "A seventy-year-old pensioner was detained for stealing a bottle of Pepsi-Cola worth 75 rubles. After he paid for the drink, he was released. A 94-year-old grandmother was detained for stealing a pack of butter worth 145 rubles from a store. The elderly woman was pitied and released. A 75-year-old woman was detained by a security guard for stealing food from a supermarket in the amount of about 2,000 rubles. She was allowed to pay for the stolen goods, after which she was released. Another elderly woman stole two bars of soap and two packs of butter, causing damage of about 500 rubles. Caught stealing, she became so nervous that she had to call an ambulance, which took her away, the release of the Novosibirsk security agency Gvardiya says."
