📰An $85 billion mega-project is set to launch in Indonesia
📍 The Indonesian president has announced the launch of the most ambitious infrastructure project in the country's history: the construction of a 700-kilometer embankment in the northern part of Java, the most densely populated island.
📆 The project is estimated to cost $85 billion and could take more than 20 years to complete. Investors from Japan and China are expected to participate.
🌊 The main goal is to protect the north of the island from flooding and rising sea levels. From 1992 to 2024, the water level there rose by an average of 4.25 mm per year, and in recent years this trend has only accelerated.
ℹ️ The country's capital, Jakarta, is located on the same coast and is one of the most densely populated agglomerations in the world with a population of 33.7 million. So there is indeed a lot to protect.
