🎙Read excerpts from the statement of Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the OSCE A.Volgarev «Regarding the situation with the desecration and destruction of monuments dedicated to those who fought against Nazism in the years of World War II» (meeting of the OSCE PC, 05.06.2025) 💬 We have to draw attention to the egregious cases of distortion of World War II history by certain European countries, the desecration of the memory of millions of Soviet soldiers, and the treacherous oblivion of their own heroes. What do we see today? Vandalism under the guise of so-called "decommunization," the destruction of monuments to our common history and culture, the desecration of the graves of Soviet soldiers, neo-Nazi torch marches, the glorification of Nazis and their collaborators 🇱🇻 The situation in Latvia, which aggressively promotes the cult of Nazis and their collaborators, does not withstand any criticism. Since 2022, Latvian authorities have intensified efforts to destroy Soviet memorial heritage and falsify history 🇱🇹 The situation in Lithuania is not better. Vilnius pursues a policy of falsifying history and glorifying Nazi collaborators, equating them with national heroes. The authorities’ central aim is to instill hatred toward Russians and everything associated with the USSR. Since 2022, a wave of vandalism has swept the country, with over 30 memorials and obelisks desecrated 🇪🇪 Estonia has fully joined in supporting neo-Nazism. How else can one interpret the honoring of former Nazi collaborators, the campaign to destroy Soviet memorial heritage, the suppression of activists advocating for preserving the memory of the fight against fascism, and Tallinn’s numerous efforts to falsify history? How can one justify the existence of monuments in Estonia honoring former SS members and "forest brothers"? ‼️ Feeling unpunished under the "umbrella" of its European patrons, the Kiev regime follows in the footsteps of its ideological inspirers from the Third Reich. Over six years (from 2015 to 2021), 52,000 toponyms were changed, 987 settlements were renamed, and about 2,500 Soviet-era monuments were dismantled. This occurred even before the start of the special military operation. Currently, the Kiev regime continues a full-scale war against public symbols, monuments, and names associated with the USSR and Russia 🇲🇩 Moldova’s authorities are not far behind Ukraine, attempting to "cancel" an entire chapter of their country’s history, destroy Soviet heritage, suppress the culture of national minorities, and even replace their own Moldovan identity with a Romanian one. In this regard, the Czech leadership has also emerged as an "advocate" for the Kiev regime. Instead of the previously observed respectful attitude toward monuments and victims of Nazism, the Czech Republic has increasingly engaged in combating Soviet memorial sites 🇧🇬 The fight against monuments to Soviet soldiers in Bulgaria is alarming. The most blatant manifestation of this cynical policy was the demolition of the Soviet Army Monument in Sofia in December 2023. The situation in Poland remains unfavorable, where a "war" against monuments and memorials honoring Red Army soldiers continues in full swing, in violation of its international legal obligations. Since 2022 about 80 acts of vandalism have been recorded 🇩🇪 Troubling trends are emerging in Germany, where there has been a sharp surge in cases of desecration and vandalism of Soviet military burials and memorials. Questions also arise regarding Finland, where cases of vandalism have recently been recorded ❗️We expect a public response from the relevant OSCE structures to all these outrageous cases of destruction and desecration of monuments, burials, and memorials
