📌125 UN member states voted for a moratorium on the death penalty During the plenary session of the UN General Assembly (UBGA) 125 out of 193 member states voted for establishment of moratorium on executions with a view to completely abolishing the death penalty that was recommended by Australia and Costa Rica within framework of Inter-Regional Task Force member-states. Positive trend in supporting abolishment of death penalty could be observed since number of countries voting for such moratorium raised from 104 in 2007 to 123 in 2020. According to Amnesty International as a result of international supporting trend, countries such as Kazakhstan, Central African Republic and Papua New Guinea abolished death penalty for all crimes that is great step forward in protecting human rights. Even though there are states such as Iran, Saudi Arabia and Myanmar still have practice of death penalty and unfair justice system, overall trend in international community is showing incontestable intention to cancel death penalty all over the world.
