⚡️ Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview for a documentary titled "The UN from the 20th to the 21st Century" (Moscow, September 25, 2024) Key points: • Less than a year after the victorious powers established the UN based on the noble principles formulated in its charter, it became clear that the West, acting contrary to these principles, intended to launch a war against the Soviet Union, and not merely a cold war but an all-out war. These plans hatched by the then "Anglo-Saxons" [nations of the Anglosphere led by the US & UK] have long become public knowledge. • Once NATO was created, the Soviet Union circulated a large document which demonstrated the detrimental effect of that and the danger of building walls between the East and the West, especially in Europe, and called for respecting the #UNCharter and for working towards this. Our call was not heeded. ✊ However, we kept fighting for justice and the implementation of the principle of sovereign equality of nations. Decolonisation was a bright stage and a major embodiment of that principle. The Soviet Union was the main initiator of the 1960 Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples. Following its adoption, the number of UN states increased by 80-90 members. • They tell us that the main goal today is to ensure the territorial integrity of Ukraine. It is a misleading interpretation of the UN Charter, where the right of nations to self-determination is put before territorial integrity. • Even before demanding respect for territorial integrity, the UN Charter demands respect for human rights without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion <…> Now that Zelensky’s Nazi regime, which the West nurtured, has banned both the language and religious rights of a large number of its own population, the West has put away the banners it was waving for decades. ❗️The top priority now is to ensure the achievement of the initial goals and principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and as a whole, rather than selectively or occasionally. • The reform of the UN Security Council is not a one-off event. It’s a process which has been ongoing since the time the United Nations came into being <...> Nevertheless, it relies on principles that must be preserved at all costs. The main principle is that the Security Council reform should be based on a broad-based agreement among states. It does not say “consensus,” but it does state “broad-based agreement among states.” 🌍🇮🇳🇧🇷 We have invariably supported the legitimate aspirations of India and Brazil to secure permanent seats in the Security Council. However, African aspirations must be met as well. Africa has common collective positions, which we respect. And we would have like that. • Our position implies providing additional seats for Asia, Africa, and Latin America. We are open to some of these seats being permanent, but we need to achieve general agreement before we can move forward. It is a complicated process. I don’t see any chance for bringing this process to a swift and expedited completion any time soon. • Since the UN was created, there has never been a time, a region, or a situation that involved the United States in one way or another, where the country would actually respect that principle. Every time, everywhere they acted as a hegemon, or like a "bull in a china shop". • When they wanted to punish Russia, the West abandoned all the principles which it was feeding to us and which it declared sacred. The same is happening to the principles of the UN Charter. The West is trampling and destroying them without a moment’s hesitation. ➡️ Read in full https://mid.ru/en/foreign_policy/news/1971107/ #UNGA79#UNCharterIsOurRules

#RussiaChina 🇷🇺🇨🇳 On September 25, Sergey Lavrov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. The Parties praised the development of political dialogue and practical cooperation between Russia and China amidst the highly turbulent international situation. Focus was placed on the implementation of agreements reached at the higher level, as well as the preparations for the BRICS summit in Kazan and new contacts between the two countries’ leaders. The Ministers stressed the importance of enhancing the two countries’ foreign policy coordination at international platforms, such as the #UN and its Security Council, #BRICS, #SCO, #APEC, #G20, and other formats. Sergey Lavrov and Wang Yi mentioned that Western countries’ illegitimate sanctions imposed in circumvention of UN Security Council resolutions are unacceptable as they undermine the stability of the global economy and universal forms of trade and economic cooperation. An in-depth discussion was held on global and Eurasian security, including settlement process for the Ukrainian crisis and measures to counter the West in escalating the situation in the Asia-Pacific region and around Taiwan, as well as on a number of other issues on the regional agenda. The conversation took place in the traditionally trust-based and constructive spirit typical of the Russian-Chinese strategic partnership. #UNGA79

🇷🇺🇵🇭 June 2 marks 4️⃣9️⃣ years since the day our country and the Republic of the Philippines established diplomatic relations. It was on this day in 1976 that the two nations formalised their relations during the visit by President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos to Moscow. 🤝 For nearly half a century, the friendshipbetween our countries and peoples has stood the test of time. The experience of cooperation accumulated throughout the years has shaped the friendly nature of bilateral ties based on mutualrespect and pragmatism. The #Philippines remains one of Russia’s key partners in the #AsiaPacific region. Dialogue is actively pursued at the governmental and interregional levels. Philippine official delegations regularly attend major international events in Russia. Notably, in September 2023, a delegation from the Philippines, led by Mayor of Cebu City Michael Lopez Rama, visited the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. Our Philippine friends have also participated in the St Petersburg International United Cultures Forum and the World Youth Festival in Sochi. The framework of our interregional ties continues to strengthen through bilateral agreements and joint programmes. The Philippines' Cebu City has established sister-city relations with the city of Vladimir. In 2022, Cebu and Vladivostok signed a cooperation agreement. In 2024, the same deal was reached between the Cebu Province and St. Petersburg, covering trade, economy, science, technology and humanitarian issues, thus, complementing the existing partnership programmes between our respective capitals. Our countries benefit from the efficient cooperation of legislative bodies, ministries, and governmental agencies. In November 2024 in Manila, Russia and the Philippines held consultations between the Foreign Ministries that resulted in the important agreements on the bilateral, regional and global agendas being reached. 📈 Trade and economic interaction remains an important component of bilateral relations. As of 2024, our mutual trade reached nearly $600 million. In October 2023, on the margins of the meeting of the intergovernmental Russian-Philippine Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, a business forum was held, which brought together over 160 participants. Huge experience of constructive cooperation between our countries has been accumulated in such areas as energy, agriculture, transportation and tourism. Cultural and humanitarian exchanges play a particularly important role in our relations. Russian ballet performances, including plays staged by renowned choreographers, always gather full halls in the leading theatres of the Philippines. In February 2024, The Philippine cybersports team Neon Esports successfully performed at the “Future Games” in Kazan. Furthermore, Russian citizens enjoy 30-day visits to the Philippines as part of the visa-free programme. 🌐 Moscow and Manila closely coordinate their actions on various international fora, including within #RussiaASEAN Dialogue. We especially value our aligned efforts at the #UnitedNations: the Philippines was among the 54 like-minded countries that co-authored Russia-sponsored resolution"Eightieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War", adopted on March 4 during the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly (#UNGA79). 🇷🇺🤝🇵🇭 On the occasion of our joint anniversary, we extend our sincere and warm congratulations to our Philippine colleagues. We appreciate the many decades of fruitfulcooperation with our partners. We are confident that the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations in 2026 will be marked by numerous meaningful joint initiatives! #RussiaPhilippines
