⚛️ In 2025, the Russian nuclear industry will celebrate its 80th anniversary. Its official history began on August 20, 1945, when a Special Committee was formed to oversee all activities related to the use of uranium's atomic energy. 🛡Russia's history of the peaceful atom includes many unique discoveries and achievements. In just four years, Soviet scientists managed to create the atomic bombin response to the threat from the United States, which bombed the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the summer of 1945, showing the world the destructive power of the new weapon. Russia has pioneered the peaceful use of nuclear technology. Our experts launched the world's first nuclear power plant in Obninsk, providing people with access to a powerful new source of clean energy. Within the first 15 years of the USSR's nuclear industry, Soviet specialists commissioned the world's first nuclear icebreaker and tokamak. ❗️Today, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom, is a world leader in nuclear technology. Due to its extensive expertise, Rosatom is successfully developing many new areas, including additive and quantum technologies, nuclear medicine and global logistics. Three words encapsulate the meaning and scope of the nuclear sector: "pride," "inspiration" and "dream." The Soviet nuclear industry was born in response to the challenges of the postwar era, and its peaceful achievements have inspired generations and pushed the limits of what is possible. 🔬Today, the nuclear industry has a new, big dream: a long and healthy life for humanity through clean atomic energy, advanced nuclear medicine, new materials and cutting-edge digital technologies. 🌐 Rosatom experts work in more than 60 countries worldwide. The company's portfolio of foreign orders for nuclear power plant construction includes 33 large-capacity units in 10 countries, as well as the world's first export project for the construction of small-capacity nuclear power plants — six units in Uzbekistan. 🧬 Rosatom's enormous scientific and engineering potential, accumulated through harnessing the power of the atom, has enabled the company to expand beyond nuclear technology. Atomic scientists are developing quantum computing to solve complex problems such as creating new drugs for incurable diseases and eliminating world hunger. The nuclear industry is developing new solutions in nuclear medicine. More than 2.5 million medical procedures are performed annually with the help of Russian technologies in Russia and abroad. 📷: Rosatom
