В продолжение вчерашней темы о роли астрологии при дворе. Интересная справка историка Роберта Коллиса, специалиста по истории России XVIII века, о том, откуда Пётр Великий заимствовал астрологические практики для их активного внедрения в государственное управление, через какие каналы это знание приходило в Россию, какие формы принимало и как распространялось. Пётр понимал астрологию как государственную технологию: инструмент легитимации власти, выбора времени для ключевых решений, укрепления административной системы и встраивания России в европейскую политическую культуру. Через астрологию он сакрализировал свою власть, показывая согласованность своей революционной политики с «небесным порядком». Короче говоря, был человек прогрессивный Пётр Алексеевич. ABSTRACT: Astrology exerted a strong influence at the court of Peter the Great, yet it has received scant attention from either Russian or Western historians. My paper explores the various ways in which astrology had an impact upon various aspects of Petrine court culture. More specifically, I analyse the manner in which official court panegyrics repeatedly utilised astrological symbolism to extol the reign of Peter the Great. I also show how the form of astrology embraced at the Russian court reflected a profound interest in contemporary Western scientific and medical theories. In other words, alongside practical skills, such as shipbuilding, I demonstrate how Peter the Great also promoted strands of astrological thought. Lastly, I focus on the influence of astrology in shaping the individual characteristics and worldviews of Petrine courtiers, with a particular emphasis on Prince Boris Ivanovich Kurakin (1676–1725), the most prominent Russian diplomat of his era.
