California closes major highway, Newsom blames 'dangerous' Marines event A dispute erupted between California Governor Gavin Newsom and the federal government after the U.S. Marine Corps announced a live-fire demonstration at Camp Pendleton on Oct. 18, leading to the temporary closure of a 15-mile stretch of Interstate 5 from Harbor Drive to Basilone Road.
