Marriage dangled like a carrot on a stick One of my friends had been with her boyfriend for 8 years. They had been discussing marriage for the final 5 years of their relationship but he always had a reason not to Not yet. One day. Im focusing on my career right now. Etc etc. This went on until one day he told her to stop bringing it up and he will propose when hes ready. For a while she was doing everything in her power to "prove" she was worthy of being his wife. Of course, he LOVED this attention.... Fast forward to January of this year, my friend has drastically had a change of heart. She no longer feels the need to get married. She felt things had been working fine between them without a ring on her finger etc. She no longer sees the value in getting married. So she brought it up to him, who... well.....he broke up with her. He told her he doesnt want to be with someone who doesnt want to get married. He got into another relationship after 2 months of breaking up. Today, he got engaged to her. No doubt a pregnancy announcement will follow Its made me think about the reasons some people use the promise of marriage like this. He had my friend right where he wanted her. Like some kind of hold. He was in control. He loved the attention he was getting and thought he would no longer get the benefits once they were married.
