I am incredibly honoured and humbled to have been named the 1st Runner-up in the Single Photo category of the COHESA One Health Photo Competition 2025! My photograph, "Risks of poor waste management," was taken along the banks of the Akaki River here in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It captures a stark reality for a local community that relies on this water for their livestock and vegetable production. This image is more than a moment in time; it is a visual story of the silent threat posed by industrial contaminants and poor waste disposal, which endangers the health of animals, the people who depend on them, and the environment we all share. . This recognition is a powerful reminder of why the #OneHealth approach is so crucial. The health of people, animals, and our ecosystems is deeply intertwined, and we cannot protect one without safeguarding the others. I extend my sincere gratitude to the COHESA project consortium—International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), CIRAD, and ISAAA AfriCenter —for this platform. I also want to congratulate all the winners and participants whose work beautifully illustrates the interconnectedness of our world. Let this image be a call to action for greater awareness and collaborative solutions to protect our shared environment. its Yared, your እጩ የእንስሳት ሐኪም! @campus_voice_2016 #OneHealth#COHESA#PhotographyForChange#PhotoCompetition#PublicHealth#EnvironmentalHealth#Ethiopia#LinkedInNewsEurope
