Let me share an essay written by a student who received a Band 7 in writing in the real exam🤗 More and more people buy a wide range of electrical goods like television, microwave oven and rice cookers. Do you think this is a positive or a negative development? Nowadays, an increasing number of people have a tendency to purchase an excessive number of gadgets. In my opinion, this development is negative, as it entails growing trend for on overconsumption and increases the carbon footprint associated with the production and usage of electrical goods. While people continue to buy a wide range of gadgets, they risk to overconsumeing. Actually, buying electrical goods and leaving them untouched is a popular situation in many households. It is detrimental not only for a family’s budget, but also for society overall, as it distorts the perception of the actual need in something and drives more people to behave in the same way. The long-term effect of the trend can be observed even now, when people, after being influenced by others, spend all their money on brand-new cooking devices or gadgets for work which, in fact, do not contribute to their life at all. Another negative effect of this trend is ecological harm as a consequence of buying an extended list of gadgets. When producing any electrical product, a huge amount of carbon dioxide is released, contributing to the disturbing environmental harm. By buying goods consistently, people create demand for them, thus, worsening the carbon footprint. For instance, recent research has shown that the more electrical devices are purchased, the more emissions are observed by ecologists. Moreover, everybody knows that to use gadgets, energy is required. There is no surprise that to make electricity different fuels such as coal and oil are burnt, which also entail great emissions of harmful gases To conclude, it is important to keep in mind, while there can be a trend to buy many devices, it has a detrimental effect on both society and ecology.
