In this review of Professor Sreeram Chaulia’s new book ‘Friends’ for Hindustan Times, Ambassador Lakshmi Puri goes deep into bilateralism, multilateralism and the very essence of interests and values that determine friendships in #ForeignPolicy. She also warns of the “inbuilt risks of some of these partnerships”, and makes a strong case for #India to build “safeguards against slide-backs” through diversification of strategic partnerships. This is an ideationally enriching essay by one of the legends of India’s #diplomacy. 📰 We Learned Something Fascinating About Trump’s Foreign Policy This Week The U.S. attack on Venezuela was a defining moment for Trump 2.0—a foreign policy that’s more aggressive, unpredictable, and willing to risk backlash than anything seen before. The administration is rewriting the rules of American power and reasserting dominance in the Western Hemisphere. Trump’s fixation on Venezuela’s oil has taken center stage, overshadowing other justifications like fighting drug cartels. The unvarnished avarice is striking, even for a president who’s long championed American energy. The capture of a foreign leader and the vow to control another country’s resources mark a shocking escalation from previous threats and posturing. The move reflects a broader shift: the Western Hemisphere is now central to Trump’s vision of American power. Hawks like Marco Rubio and Stephen Miller are driving this new direction, but Trump himself is the ultimate decision-maker. The administration is not just seeking to stabilize Venezuela or curb migration and drug trafficking—it’s about demonstrating American strength and dominance. Trump’s actions send a clear message to the world: take his threats seriously. The administration is not just after stability or economic gain—it’s about dominance, power, and riches in the hemisphere. Trump loves a big show, and the spectacle will go on. #trump#venezuela#foreignpolicy#empire#diplomacy 📱American Оbserver - Stay up to date on all important events 🇺🇸

🇷🇺🇲🇹 Russian Embassy in Malta

@rusembmalta · Post #1910 · 03/10/2025, 10:25 AM

@RusEmbMalta Press release. 🎙️Key points from the interview with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov for the media holding "New Regions of Russia" (March 10, 2025): 🔹 The past three years have been a "moment of truth," revealing the true face of the West and its disregard for even basic principles of international law. 🔹 Western elites continue to act with hegemonic and colonialist tendencies, leading to a global divide between the "Western minority" and the "world majority." 🔹 Russia considers it necessary to strengthen its own resources and foster cooperation with trusted allies. 🔹 The future of relations with the West depends on its willingness to acknowledge mistakes, including abandoning the strategy of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia. 🔹 Russia remains open to negotiations, but they must guarantee its national interests and eliminate threats from the Ukrainian and Western directions. 🔹 The 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War is a key event of the year, emphasizing the importance of historical memory and patriotic education for the younger generation. 🔹 Despite the West’s information warfare, Russia’s voice remains strong on the international stage, with the majority of countries supporting the fight against the revival of Nazism. 🔗Full interview. #ForeignPolicy#Russia#UkrainianCrisis#Victory80

🚀 Iran's Ten-Point Plan Gains Consensus as Negotiation Framework On April 10, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Ravanchi announced during a meeting with foreign diplomats and international organization representatives in Iran that a consensus has been reached to use Iran's ten-point plan as the basis for negotiations. According to BlockBeats, Ravanchi emphasized Iran's openness to diplomacy and dialogue but firmly rejected any discussions based on false information intended to deceive or pave the way for renewed military aggression against Iran. #Iran#Diplomacy#Negotiation#InternationalRelations#ForeignPolicy

The Idealist

Here is a thought-provoking review essay by Suhasini Haidar in The Hindu about three books authored by Sreeram Chaulia, T.V. Paul and Dhruva Jaishankar, with grand strategy in #ForeignPolicy as the binding theme. Suhasini’s view that Sreeram Chaulia’s ‘Friends’ brings “clarity of thought” to the subject is accurate. Her point about ‘Friends’ not including any neighbouring country of #India is worth reflecting on because the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has not signed formal strategic partnerships with countries next door in #SouthAsia. Also, Chaulia’s definition of a consequential strategic partner is a country that helps stretch India’s #geopolitical ambit into distant parts of the world. Please read on and join the debate!
