Today we’re highlighting a place where the story of humanity began. 🌍 📍 The Cradle of Humankind is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located about 50 km from Johannesburg. This region is famous for its paleoanthropological discoveries — some of the oldest human ancestors were found right here. 🏛 The Maropeng Visitor Centre (from the Setswana word meaning “returning to the place of origin”) features interactive exhibits about human evolution, ancient tools, and archaeological discoveries. 🕳 Nearby are the Sterkfontein Caves, one of the site's key excavation locations. 🔍 Fascinating fact: In 1947, scientists discovered a fossilized skull here, belonging to Australopithecus africanus, an early human ancestor who lived around 2.5 million years ago.
