📰 NEWS | Progressive Activists, Officials Condemn Venezuela Attacks, Call for Joint Action Against Monroe Doctrine On January 25, delegates from more than 20 countries gathered in Bogotá for the inaugural “Nuestra América” summit, convened by Progressive International. The meeting was convened in response to the January 3 US military operation in Venezuela, which included bombings in Caracas and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores. The summit adopted the San Carlos Declaration, denouncing a revived Monroe Doctrine and calling for coordinated international solidarity to defend regional sovereignty and international law. Organizers also announced that a follow-up meeting will take place in Havana in the coming weeks. Meanwhile in Venezuela, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez launched the “Program for Democratic Coexistence and Peace” and reported the release of 626 detainees, with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights invited to accompany the process.
