📰 NEWS | Venezuela: US Removes Enriched Uranium from Obsolete Nuclear Reactor The governments of Venezuela and the United States, together with the United Kingdom and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), completed the extraction and transfer of 13.5 kilograms of uranium enriched above 20% from Venezuela’s obsolete RV-1 research reactor. The material, stored since the reactor’s closure in 1991, was transported from Miranda state to Puerto Cabello and then shipped to the US Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina. Venezuelan authorities said the January 3 US attack near the IVIC reactor facilities increased the urgency of removing the radioactive material.
