#OTD in 1993, the Family and Medical Leave Act was signed into law, giving more workers flexibility when facing medical and family related issues. I'll continue working in Congress to expand access to paid family and medical leave for all Americans.

#OTD in 1965, the Voting Rights Act became law and affirmed every American’s right to vote. In recent years, we've seen efforts to roll back those vital protections. Voting is the basis of our democracy, and Congress must pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, to protect it.

#OTD in 1961: the first freedom ride left Washington, DC, bound for New Orleans. The freedom riders courageously put their lives on the line to challenge the inequities of segregation in the South, and their actions were critical to the success of the Civil Rights Movement.
