The San Francisco City Attorney’s office is suing 16 of the most frequently visited AI-powered “undressing” websites, which have been used to create non-consensual deepfake nudes of women and children. City Attorney David Chiu announced the lawsuit, highlighting that these sites were accessed over 200 million times in the first half of 2024 alone.
These websites allow users to upload photos of fully clothed individuals, using AI tools to generate fake nude images. The lawsuit accuses the site operators of violating state and federal laws against revenge pornography, deepfake pornography, and child exploitation. The legal action aims to shut down these sites permanently and impose civil penalties on their operators.
