A new mansion has been found for the government to accommodate asylum seekers in Mallow. Longueville House is a stunning 301 year old listed Georgian Country House hidden in the heart of a 400 acre wooded estate in the Blackwater Valley. It was on the market for €7 Million in 2022. The property has 20 ensuite bedrooms and a standalone cottage with seven bedrooms, giving it a total bed capacity of 123. All bedrooms are well furnished to a high standard and the cottage has its own kitchen and living areas in a rear courtyard. A fine Victorian conservatory was added in 1866. Self-catering services will be provided on the site and the long-term guests will be provided with a weekly voucher for a local shop but toiletries will be replenished weekly and other essentials such as toilet paper replenished as needed. Independent Tom McDonnell from the Éire Saor group elected to Kildare County Council for Newbridge on the 11th and final count after a long delay caused by multiple recounts which finally saw the Sinn Féin candidate excluded.
