The next Ubuntu LTS release will feature a fully Snap-only version that is immutable by design. The "classic" version (e.g regular Ubuntu) will remain there, but now you got a new release if enjoy swimming in the pool of Snaps. https://ubuntu.com/blog/ubuntu-core-an-immutable-linux-desktop
