#Ethiopia: WHO condemns killing of three healthcare workers in #Amhara region; AMA calls for release of detained, abducted medics
The World Health Organization has condemned the killing of three healthcare professionals in North Mecha Woreda of North #Gojjam Zone, Amhara Region.
The three were shot dead on 02 April 2026. Two of the victims, including a nurse, were working at Abyot Fana Primary Health Center in North Mecha, while the third was employed at a private healthcare facility.
The incident occurred amid escalating conflict in the Amhara region between government forces and armed groups in the region.
Separately, the Amhara Medical Association(#AMA) has called on the government to ensure that doctors and healthcare workers currently abducted or detained in the region return to their homes “without any preconditions.”
