Как правильно считать корреляцию? На первой лекции по Asset pricing на ФИБ РЭШ я сообщаю студентам, что желательно никогда не считать корреляции между "уровнями цен". Корреляция стоимости барреля нефти и количества центов за один российский рубль является примером подобного "не стоит". Почему? Дело в трендах. Многие подобные "переменные уровня" несут внутри средне- и долгосрочные тренды. Рубль в долгосроке ослабляется к доллару, то есть центов за него постепенно дают всё меньше (это связано с более высокой инфляцией в России, чем в США). Нефтяные цены сложнее, но и в них бывают циклы роста и снижения. Корреляция даст связь трендов, а не реальной зависимости переменных. Смотрим исследование РБК и БКС. В доступном мне тексте написано: "показатель взаимосвязи рассчитывался для курса рубля к доллару, с одной стороны, и нефти марки Brent - с другой". Если это посчитано для цен, то такие корреляции считать не нужно, и делать из них выводы тоже не нужно. Действительно, для цен можно увидеть условное усиление связи в декабре 2022г по 20-дневным ценам (60-дневные не показывают подобной динамики). Если же посчитать корреляции доходностей $/руб. и Brent (ниже график по 20-дневным и 60-дневным отрезкам), то видно, что нет роста в ноябре-декабре 2022г и падения в начале 2023г после ввода "нового бюджетного правила". Мне также кажется, что стоит смотреть с Urals, в ней динамика важнее для рубля. Вывод: хотите сделать достаточно быстро и правильно - не делайте ничего с "трендовыми" и "нестационарными" переменными, это потребует большой аккуратности. #Ruble#Brent#MAFNES
