The astrolabe is an ancient scientific tool from the 6th century used to tell time and find the positions of the Sun and stars. Made of metal, it has parts like a base plate (mater), a rotating star map (rete), and a sighting rule (alidade). Mariners used it for navigation before sextants. Mariam al-Asṭurlābiyya was a Muslim woman scientist in the Middle Ages. She studied stars and math. She built and used astrolabes to learn about the sky. Her work helped people understand space better.
