🇫🇷#France: A failed contract killing in July 2020 exposed an alleged mafia network operating within the Athanor Masonic Lodge in the Paris suburb of Puteaux. So far, 22 people have gone on trial on charges including murder and other serious crimes linked to the lodge. Of these, 13 are former intelligence agents, soldiers, and businessmen, all of whom face possible life sentences. The case came to light in July 2020, when two members of France’s parachute regiment were arrested in possession of weapons near the home of their intended target, business coach Marie-Hélène Dini. The assassination attempt ultimately failed. The suspects told investigators they believed they were acting on behalf of the French state, claiming she was working for Mossad. The alleged leader of the hit squad, Leroy, stated that, throughout these actions, he believed he was acting in the interests of the French state and that he was manipulated into believing he will become an informant for the DGSI. 🇫🇷#France: French police have raided the Paris offices of the Swiss bank Edmond de Rothschild as part of an investigation involving French diplomat Fabrice Aidan and his alleged links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Aidan, who was seconded to the United Nations from 2006 to 2013 and later worked for the same bank, was named in more than 200 documents from the "Epstein Files". According to reports, he sent U.N. Security Council briefings and other confidential documents to Epstein during his time at the United Nations. Emails reviewed by Reuters appear to show the transfer of such materials during that period. Aidan has denied any wrongdoing, and his lawyer did not immediately respond to requests for comment. 🇫🇷#France: A masked man threw a grenade into a beauty salon in Grenoble, injuring six people, including a 5-year-old child. The attack occurred around 3:00PM on Friday. Luckily none of the victims were badly wounded and their injuries were treated at the scene. The attacker remains at large, and the Grenoble prosecutor’s office has not disclosed further details or a possible motive. Likely it’s related to organised crime but it’s as of yet unknown.

🇮🇷#Iran – 🇫🇷#France: A French shipping vessel, San Antonio, was reportedly attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Injured crew members were evacuated from the vessel and transported for medical treatment. While several reports suggest that the ship may have been struck by an “Iranian missile,” the company operating the vessel, CMA CGM, has declined to provide further details about the incident. However, the company stated that just last month, another one of its vessels came under “warning shots” while attempting to transit the Strait. (via Reuters)

French maritime authorities stated that the vessel, nicknamed “Grinch,” was suspected of operating under a false flag. French Navy forces boarded the tanker and conducted a search. According to reports, an examination of the ship’s documents after boarding confirmed irregularities related to the flag under which the vessel was allegedly sailing. 🇮🇶/🇫🇷🔥Drone attack on Erbil; one French soldier killed ➡️ Iraqi resistance groups, continuing their attacks on US assets in Erbil, targeted the French army base with a drone attack. As a result of this attack, one French soldier was killed and several others were injured. It is reported that a French army helicopter was also destroyed in this attack. 👉 This is the first attack by resistance groups on the French military base in northern Iraq. 🇸🇾#Syria - 🇫🇷#France: The CEO of the French cement company Lafarge has been sentenced to six years in prison for financing terrorism. The company was found guilty of paying around $6.5 million to armed groups, including ISIS, between 2013 and 2014 during the Syrian civil war. These payments were made to keep Lafarge’s plant operating in northern Syria during the conflict. The CEO, Bruno Lafont, along with eight former employees, were convicted of supporting terrorist activities by providing funds that may have contributed to attacks in the Middle East and Europe. The payments were made allegedly in order to secure "safe passage" and to purchase materials which at that time were from quarries under IS control. (via BBC)
