The old order in which the USA guaranteed freedom of navigation and openness of maritime sea lines of communication has ended. Why are military conflicts and contests to control crucial maritime choke points increasing? What is the way out of the impasse caused by the double blockade of the Strait of Hormuz? Could war over Taiwan or the South China Sea lead to bottling up of the Strait of Malacca? How will intensifying rivalry between the USA and China over the Panama Canal pan out? Are there options for middle and small powers to prevent closure of key waterways and sea lanes of communication? For answers, watch Episode 171 of Dr. Sreeram Chaulia’s TV show on Doordarshan, featuring a discussion with the prominent geopolitical strategist and analyst, Velina Tchakarova. 🔗https://youtu.be/qOtNxWmf5Vo?si=HhjnnTFWOiDOoeCd

American President Donald Trump’s social media post denigrating India as a ‘hellhole country’ and Indian migrants as ‘gangsters with laptops’ is one indicator of a structural shift towards an uncivilised anti-social global environment marked by spillover between vicious domestic politics and nasty international politics. Trump and China’s President Xi Jinping are both responsible for this degeneration of language and discourse in world affairs. It is better to understand and accept the new normal and develop a degree of stoicism towards it. Why is South Korea prioritising elevation of ties with India at present? What is South Korea’s prowess in strategic sectors like shipbuilding, semiconductors and green hydrogen, and how can India benefit from it? What is the potential to deepen collaboration between the two sides in Artificial Intelligence, quantum computing and information technology? Is the target of almost doubling bilateral trade to over $50 billion achievable through an upgraded or new trade agreement? Can ‘Make in India, together with Korea’ co-produce more successes in defence like the K9 Vajra Howitzer tank? Can South Korea become as strong a geopolitical partner of India as Japan in the Indo-Pacific? For answers, watch Episode 170 of Dr. Sreeram Chaulia’s TV show on Doordarshan, featuring a discussion with Dr. Kyunghoon Kim, head of the India and South Asia team at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). 🔗https://youtu.be/1-0HlVa60KI?si=EREDpGtB3BLrFAqq

Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan is a hardcore jihadi with a visceral hatred for India. He is also greedy for more political power in his country. So, one must be watchful of terrorist threats directed by him using the cover of perceived support from the USA or China, says Dr. Tara Kartha, former Director of India’s National Security Council Secretariat. The USA often aids Pakistan with the belief that it cannot be allowed to fail, as that would exacerbate its already high dependence on China. China, in turn, uses Pakistan as a front in matters like peace mediation in the Iran war, says Dr. Tara Kartha, former Director of India’s National Security Council Secretariat. Which factors have made Pakistan a useful geopolitical tool for the USA since the opening to China in 1971 until the mediation in the Iran war in 2026? What are the quid pro quos between the USA and Pakistan in their off and on marriage of convenience? Where does China figure in fuelling and sustaining the US-Pakistan bonhomie? Are there risks of increased Pakistan-sponsored jihadist extremism and terrorism due to perceived American support? How will the revitalised USA-Pakistan alliance impact the USA-India strategic partnership? For answers, watch Episode 169 of Dr. Sreeram Chaulia’s TV show on Doordarshan, featuring a discussion with the former Director of India’s National Security Council Secretariat, Dr. Tara Kartha. 🔗https://youtu.be/YwqRDji0DvE?si=x0W1R3Rv62pEQFht
