American President Donald Trump’s social media post denigrating India as a ‘hellhole country’ and Indian migrants as ‘gangsters with laptops’ is one indicator of a structural shift towards an uncivilised anti-social global environment marked by spillover between vicious domestic politics and nasty international politics. Trump and China’s President Xi Jinping are both responsible for this degeneration of language and discourse in world affairs. It is better to understand and accept the new normal and develop a degree of stoicism towards it.
