#RussiaSouthAfrica#BRICS2024 🇷🇺🇿🇦 On October 17, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola spoke over the phone. The Sides discussed the development of bilateral relations and preparations for the first ministerial conference of the #RussiaAfrica Partnership Forum in Sochi on November 9-10, and the BRICS Summit in Kazan on October 22-24.

📄 XVI BRICS Summit Kazan Declaration 📍 Kazan, Russia, October 23, 2024 Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security ✍️ We reiterate the importance of further enhancing BRICS solidarity and cooperation based on our mutual interests and key priorities and further strengthening our strategic partnership. We reaffirm our commitment to the BRICS spirit of mutual respect and understanding, sovereign equality, solidarity, democracy, openness, inclusiveness, collaboration and consensus. As we build upon 16 years of BRICS Summits, we further commit ourselves to strengthening cooperation in the expanded BRICS under the three pillars: ✅ political and security; ✅ economic and financial; ✅ cultural and people-to-people cooperation; and to enhancing our strategic partnership for the benefit of our people through the promotion of peace, a more representative, fairer international order, a reinvigorated and reformed multilateral system, sustainable development and inclusive growth. We welcome the considerable interest by countries of the Global South in BRICS and we endorse the Modalities of BRICS Partner Country Category. We strongly believe that extending the BRICS partnership with EMDCs will further contribute to strengthening the spirit of solidarity and true international cooperation for the benefit of all. We commit to further promoting BRICS institutional development. 👉 Strengthening Multilateralism For A More Just And Democratic World Order 🇺🇳 We reaffirm our support for a comprehensive reform of the United Nations, including its Security Council, with a view to making it more democratic, representative, effective and efficient, and to increase the representation of developing countries in the Council’s memberships so that it can adequately respond to prevailing global challenges and support the legitimate aspirations of emerging and developing countries from Africa, Asia and Latin America, including BRICS countries, to play a greater role in international affairs, in particular in the United Nations, including its Security Council. We recognise the crucial role of BRICS in the process of improving the international monetary and financial system (IMFS), with a view to making it more responsive to the needs of all countries. 👉 Enhancing cooperation for global and regional stability and security We strongly support enhanced BRICS dialogue on policy and security issues. ♥️#BRICS2024 📸 The final preparations for there the XVI BRICS Summit, starting tomorrow, have been completed! #Kazan welcomes its guests with traditional Russian and Tatar hospitality! Delegations from 36 countries, including leaders of 22 states, as well as the heads of six international organisations, are scheduled to attend the event. 🌐 On October 10, Moscow hosted a high-level seminar as part of the financial track of the Russian #BRICS Chairmanship. 🔘The event was attended by Finance Ministers and Heads of Central Banks of the association, and its main topic was the improvement of the international monetary and financial system. 💬 During the meeting, the participants discussed prospects for the development of the global economy, the current state of the BRICS countries’ economies, issues of customs and tax cooperation, launch of the BRICS research network on finance, interaction in the payment sector, etc. 📊 At the plenary session, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov presented a report on reforming the global financial architecture based on four key principles — security, independence, accessibility and sustainability. #BRICS2024 #Finance

#BRICS2024 🇷🇺🇮🇷 Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian held a meeting on the sidelines of the #BRICS Summit in Kazan. 💬 Vladimir Putin: This visit to Russia is your first as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and this has great symbolic importance. Iran has become a full participant of BRICS, and you know that we strongly supported your application. Earlier, we also vigorously promoted your accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. This has given us additional opportunities for cooperation in the international arena. Recently, we had a very substantive and, I am sure, useful meeting in Ashgabat, where we reviewed the main aspects of bilateral cooperation and the most relevant regional issues. Most importantly, we reaffirmed our policy of mutually strengthening ties in every possible way. Our interaction is on the rise; it is genuinely friendly and constructive. Soon we will be able to consolidate the results achieved with a new major interstate agreement on comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Iran. We are grateful to you for accepting the invitation to pay a separate visit to our country to sign this document and other important documents in a ceremonial atmosphere. As I said in Ashgabat, one of our priorities is to consolidate the emerging positive trends in trade and economic cooperation. We expect this issue to be addressed by the intergovernmental commission, chaired by our Minister of Energy, Mr Tsivilev, and Iranian Minister of Petroleum Mohsen Paknejad. Other priorities include the implementation of major joint initiatives such as the development of Iranian railway infrastructure as part of promoting a major project, the International North-South Transport Corridor project, as well as the construction of the second and third power units at the Bushehr NPP. 📊 Indeed, the Free Trade Agreement signed between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union at the close of 2023 significantly contributes to the expansion of economic ties. Cultural and humanitarian cooperation is likewise making good progress. Notably, an intergovernmental agreement concerning the establishment and operation of cultural centres came into effect in July of this year. Moreover, the visa-free regime for organised groups of tourists, operational since August of the previous year, is actively fostering an increase in mutual tourist exchange – a 52-percent growth was observed in 2023. Today, we will continue our discussions on the most pressing international issues, including the dramatic developments in the Middle East, as well as the situations in Syria and the South Caucasus. 🤝 Generally speaking, I would like to emphasise that the approaches of Russia and Iran towards the global agenda are closely aligned or fully coincide. We are united by a shared aspiration to establish a just multipolar world order, to uphold international norms, and to maintain the pivotal role of the United Nations. I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my greetings and best wishes to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The media are reporting a terrorist attack in Türkiye. You are certainly aware of our stance on this: we condemn any acts of this kind, no matter what the motives may be. <...> Russian-Turkish relations are of a good-neighbourly and constructive nature, rooted in a long-standing history of partnership across a wide range of areas. You and I maintain a regular dialogue on current issues on both bilateral and international agendas. I highly value these consistently beneficial interactions. I am confident that our conversation today will be both fruitful and useful. Naturally, we will discuss ways to enhance trade and economic cooperation, which has been developing very steadily year by year. For instance, last year, the volume of trade was an impressive $55.4 billion and from January to August this year, this figure rose by a further 6.2 percent. <...> Strategically significant ties have been established in the energy sector. Russia is a reliable, time-tested supplier of natural gas to Türkiye. Last year, 20.5 billion cubic metres were exported through the Blue Stream and Turkish Stream pipelines. In 2023, a record 6.3 million Russian tourists visited Türkiye, up 20.7 percent on the year before that. Russia ranks first in Türkiye in this regard. <...> Of course, we will discuss international issues, including in light of tomorrow’s meeting of BRICS leaders and guest countries and organisations in the BRICS Plus/Outreach format. Tragic developments in the Middle East are the most pressing item on the international agenda. 📹 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s video message to the participants in the 6th BRICS+ Young Diplomats’ Forum(August 28, 2024) 💬 I would like to begin by offering my heartfelt greetings to the participants in the 6th Young Diplomats’ Forum which is taking place in the #BRICSplus format. It was the Foreign Ministry’s Council of Young Diplomats that initiated the first event of this kind in Ufa as part of Russia’s 2015 chairmanship. Since then, this platform has emerged as an effective tool for promoting horizontal ties between the BRICS foreign ministries. It is worth noting that Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, has been selected to host the 2024 meeting. It stands at the crossroads of civilisations, and people representing various religions, creeds and ethnic groups have been living here in peace and harmony for many centuries. This offers a vivid example of the way ethnic, religious and cultural diversity can serve as a foundation for promoting long-term development and sustaining mutual understanding. #BRICS countries have been relying on these very principles in their relations. 👉 The Forum’s main topic is The Role of Young Diplomats in Strengthening Multilateralism for Fairness in Global Development and Security. It covers a wide range of major issues for BRICS states, as well as for other like-minded countries.
