📰 NEWS | Venezuela’s Rodríguez and Colombia’s Petro Hold Talks on Security, Trade, Energy Venezuela and Colombia held bilateral talks in Caracas on April 24, 2026, focusing on security and economic cooperation. On security, both governments agreed to develop joint military plans and establish immediate intelligence-sharing mechanisms to address armed groups and transnational crime along their shared 2,200-kilometer border. On economic and energy issues, the two sides discussed import substitution policies, electrical interconnection projects in western Venezuela, and the potential reopening of a natural gas pipeline to enable exports to Colombia and beyond. Officials also addressed efforts to strengthen tourism through improved air connectivity. Bilateral trade between the two countries is currently estimated at around $1.2 billion annually.
