📰 NEWS | Venezuela Reasserts Essequibo Sovereignty Claim at ICJ Hearing Venezuela reaffirmed its sovereignty claim over the Essequibo region during hearings at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Venezuelan representative Samuel Moncada said Caracas does not recognize the ICJ’s jurisdiction and argued that the 1966 Geneva Agreement remains the only valid framework for resolving the dispute with Guyana. Guyana, which brought the case before the ICJ in 2018, argued that the controversy affects more than 70% of its territory.
