I really love university dining halls for one simple reason: there I can fully feel the spirit of the university. In Cambridge it's a rather prim, reserved and ascetic approach: low-key food, beautiful table settings and cultural convos. Capitalism is raging at Yale: everything is made of oak, there are paintings and stuffed deer all around, food of all kinds and variety. Conversations are random: starting with Freud and ending with Rabelais. MSU has a gothic design: everything is made of stone: walls and tables, dietary food and strict academicism are taken in turn. Almost everyone discusses the session: it doesn’t matter whether it has closed, started or there are still retakes left. Each canteen carries the flavor of its own university.
