Peace Fighters #video#Israel Rami Elhanan is an Israeli army veteran who fought in three wars. First, he lost friends in the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Then he lost his only daughter in a suicide bombing by Palestinian terrorists in 1997. After that, anger and the urge for revenge led to dialogue about reconciliation to stop the violence and retaliation on both sides. Rami has since dedicated himself to advocating peace between Israelis and Arabs. He’s convinced it’s the only way to secure lasting peace in the region. On November 29, 1947, the UN voted to split Palestine into Jewish and Arab states, leading to the creation of Israel in 1948. Since then, Israel has fought eight wars with Arab neighbours and witnessed almost daily tension with Palestinians. There have been 11 attempts at peace, but they haven’t solved one of the world’s longest-running conflicts so far. You can watch the inspiring testimony of Rami and other Israeli activists in our documentary here. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

French Gypsies vs immigrant Gypsies #video#France In France, Gypsies are known as the ‘gens du voyage’, or 'the people who travel'. The term was coined in an effort to fight anti-Gypsy prejudice. “I think our community is the most hated in the world,” says Henoc Cortes Lopez, a French Gypsy rapper. French Gypsies also fear their traditional nomadic lifestyle is being threatened. In 2018, France passed a law that prohibits spontaneous encampments. An influx of Romas from Eastern Europe has proved to be another headache for French ‘gens du voyage’. They say newcomers seeking refugee status and welfare rights are only feeding into the anti-Gypsy stereotype. Are their worries justified? Take a look inside a Moldovan Roma camp near Paris with us and don’t forget to watch the full documentary. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

The church that Don Justo built #video#Spain For 60 years, Justo Gallego Martinez has been building his own cathedral. He’s 96 years old and has devoted most of his life to the DIY church. According to Don Justo, he’s had no blueprint or even drawings in mind. He’s been relying on proportions and intuition. Materials he uses in the construction are scavenged or donated. That’s why it’s sometimes called a ‘garbage cathedral’. Some consider Don Justo a saint, others say he’s crazy. He started the construction after tuberculosis forced him to leave a Trappist order. The former monk has since devoted his life and much of a family inheritance to the cathedral. He’s never been married and eventually fell out with his relatives. Don Justo’s cathedral won’t be completed during his lifetime. And its future is uncertain since the creator has never building approval from the city authorities. Make sure you check out Don Justo’s chaotic, yet impressive work in our documentary. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

#video#UK Eleven years ago, WikiLeaks released a trove of classified US documents relating to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The media called it ‘the greatest leak in the history of the US military’. The published materials shed light on how the US and Britain ignored prisoner abuse, as well as civilian deaths. As of today, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is incarcerated in the UK. The US government is seeking to extradite him to face espionage charges. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

How a Russian Christian sect survived in Georgia for centuries #video#Georgia The Dukhobors are a community of Russian Christians, who reject the church and its rituals. Visiting a Dukhobor village is like travelling back to the last century. Persecuted as heretics in the Russian empire, the Dukhobors were first exiled to Crimea, and then Georgia. Leo Tolstoy, once even stood up for the Dukhobors, who refused to serve in the army. He went on to help many from the community migrate to Canada. Tolstoy was impressed by the Dukhobors' pacifist views and non-materialistic lifestyle. While there are still thousands of Dukhobors living in Canada and holding onto their traditions, Dukhobor communities in Georgia are slowly disappearing. More and more people are moving back to Russia, and that's posing a threat to their unique identity. Check out the documentary for more on Dukhobors and hear their unique singing style that sends chills down the spine. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

In pursuit of an ideal face #video#SouthKorea One in four South Korean girls aged 19-29 have had plastic surgery. 💉 Double eyelids, bigger lips, a nicer chin, a thinner nose, a more defined jawline, higher cheek bones – South Korean plastic surgeons can perform any cosmetic operation. Beauty and success in life are married in South Korean society to such an extent that parents will give their kids plastic surgery as a gift. No wonder cosmetic procedures go hand in hand with the K-pop industry and its own aesthetic. While not everyone openly admits to having surgery, the SixBomb K-pop band has turned it into their thing. Members of the girl band went under the knife as part of an advertising campaign for their group and a surgical clinic.
