Techno, Disco, House 从源头上讲, EDM 其实是一个非常不讲究的曲风命名, 它的全称是 Electronic Dance Music, 电子跳舞音乐, 简称「电子舞曲」. 按照这个定义, 一切使用电子设备和软件技术制作的舞曲就都属于 EDM, 比如 Techno 曲风和 House 曲风, 它们毫无疑问都应该是 EDM, 但在真实世界里一个做 Techno 的音乐人绝对不会声称自己做的是 EDM, 包括稍微懂行的听众, 如果听到一首好听的 House, 也会说「这首 House 不错」, 而不会说「这首 EDM 不错」. 从 1970 年代开始, 使用电子设备制作的音乐(当 Techno 开始起源), 就已经在世界范围内起势, 欧洲有 Kraftwerk 和 Giorgio Moroder, 亚洲有 YMO, 美国人也很快响应了这股电子音乐风潮, 诞生出了 Disco 音乐, 这种曲风迅速火遍全美, Disco 这种曲风从诞生之初的旗号就是 "反主流", 而当时的主流就是摇滚乐, 巧合的是, 摇滚乐火爆的原因及其主要卖点主要就是反主流. 眼看要把摇滚乐拉下神坛, 结果遭到了摇滚乐迷抵制, 开始指责 Disco 音乐是黑人同性恋音乐. 1979 年, 有个叫 Steve Dahl 的摇滚乐 DJ 被电台开除了, 因为他的摇滚节目收听量实在太低, 电台打算把节目从放摇滚乐调整为放 Disco, 而他作为摇滚的拥趸拒绝放 Disco. 被解雇之后, 对 Disco 满腔仇恨的 Steve Dahl 决定整个大活儿. 1979 年 7 月 12 日, 美国职业棒球联盟的比赛中场休息阶段, 他当着全场 5 万观众炸飞了一整箱上千张 Disco 专辑, (早有策划的)观众们为这个场面疯狂, 涌进场内开始狂欢. 由于观众过于疯狂, 那场棒球比赛的下半场被迫取消, 当天警察逮捕了 39 个人, 该事件被称为「迪斯科毁灭之夜(Disco Demolition Night)」. 这个历史名场面如今看来其实种族歧视的味道非常明显, 因为根据后来说法, 当天炸毁的 1000 张专辑很多根本不是 Disco 专辑, 只是单纯的黑人音乐, 但民族热情被挑拨起来了, Disco 被认为是黑人同性恋音乐, 全美很多 Disco 场地被摇滚乐迷袭击破坏. 自此之后, 辉煌的 Disco 音乐被广泛抵制, 快速走向没落. 一个文化事件变成了波及全美的社会治安事件, 从那以后美国的主流媒体和主流唱片行业就一直对电子舞曲保持敌视的态度, 他们认为这种音乐跟同性恋, 毒品和奢靡派对有直接关联, 这种偏见一直持续了 30 年, 虽然这 30 年里美国本土音乐人做了很多电子音乐但都得不到媒体的重点报道(这期间纽约音乐人将 Disco 融合 Techno 创造出 House 音乐成功绕过了这一禁忌). 直到 2008 年, Lady Gaga 发行了歌曲《Poker Face》, 这首歌作为纯正的电子舞曲不仅销量冠绝全球还赢得了音乐界内部人士的一致好评, 美国主流媒体和唱片行业终于转变风向, 开始欢迎电子舞曲, 从曲风的角度讲, Poker Face 其实是一首 Synth Pop (合成器流行), 这是电子舞曲里的一种细分曲风, 但主流媒体已经 30 年没宣传电子舞曲了, 美国老百姓也根本不知道这些具体的细分曲风, 所以媒体干脆甩出来一个好记的大词儿: "这叫 'EDM', 电子舞曲". 从此, EDM 这个过于空洞的命名就叫起来了, 以美国人强大的媒体和商业能量, EDM 这个词迅速传播, EDM 大型音乐节也在全球风靡, 在 2010 年前后火起来的电子音乐普遍都有适合在大场地里播放的特征, 例如 Dubstep, 这些歌曲的真实曲风是啥已经不重要了, 媒体会统一称之为 EDM. 音乐人们呢？大家对 EDM 这个命名始终不太买账, 它过于粗暴了, 把很多种完全不同的曲风定义为同一种曲风, 放谁身上都会有点儿不爽, 音乐圈内也有关于 EDM 的隐藏定律「当一首EDM足够好, 那么它就不再是一首 EDM」, 人们会用它的真实曲风去定义它. * 听这种音乐比较能装屄（1）· Techno_哔哩哔哩_bilibili: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1ar421n7zj * 听这种音乐比较能装屄（2）· Disco_哔哩哔哩_bilibili: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Bt421g7Cv * 听这种音乐比较能装屄（3）· House_哔哩哔哩_bilibili: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV11J4m1G7ee * 为什么 EDM 会让人感觉「土」？_哔哩哔哩_bilibili: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1vm421j7pY/ * 听这种音乐比较能装屄（49）· Post-rock_哔哩哔哩_bilibili: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1otZjBnEwK/ #Music via Nostr@cxplay_clip

Orion isn't open source yet primarily because we're a 5-person team that spent 6+ years building this and created significant IP doing so, and we're not in a position to defend our work against a well-funded company using it as a base (we care very much about the business model of the browser surviving). Restrictive licenses help in theory but enforcing them against a company with a larger legal budget doesn't. We also see limited upside from community contributions - the number of people who can meaningfully work on a WebKit browser is small (from our experience hiring), and most of them already work at Apple or Kagi. Meanwhile, managing an open source codebase of this size would add real strain to our small team. The plan is however to open source when Orion is self-sufficient (business model of Orion is you are the customer and can pay for it - like we used to pay for browsers 20 years ago before advertisers started paying for our browsing), meaning it can sustain its own development independent of Kagi Search. I want to take the opportunity to thank all people who supported the Orion browser vision [1]. We're not there yet but recent 1.0 launch and expanding to Linux are steps in that direction. And on Jan 1st this year we began development of Orion for Windows (HN exclusive yay!). I understand this is unsatisfying to people who want source access now. It's a tradeoff we've made deliberately, not something we're hiding behind.
