⭐️ On March 28, Cape Town joined the international initiative #GardenOfMemory — an important event uniting people around a common goal: to preserve historical memory and honour the heroism of generations who gave their lives during the Great Patriotic War. 🇿🇦🌍 This was the first time the project took place in South Africa — and the first participation on the African continent. The Cape Town event marks an important milestone in the initiative, which continues to grow every year and resonate worldwide. The project aims to plant 27 million trees — one for every life lost during the Great Patriotic War. The initiative was organized by Anastasia Predunova, coordinator of the “Victory Volunteers” movement. It took place at the historic Castle of Good Hope, one of Cape Town’s oldest landmarks. 🇷🇺 Among the guests were Ambassador of the Russian Federation to South Africa, Roman Ambarov; Consul General of Russia in Cape Town, Ruslan Golubovskiy; and Russian saxophonist Igor Butman, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation and Artistic Director of the Moscow Jazz Orchestra. 💬 Ambassador Roman Ambarov: “The ‘Garden of Memory’ serves as a living bridge between past and present, connecting generations and countries through shared remembrance. Events like this strengthen friendship and understanding between nations, and ensure the sacrifices of those who fought in the Great Patriotic War are never forgotten.” In his welcoming address, Igor Butman, who is visiting South Africa for the Cape Town Jazz Festival (27–28 March), also highlighted the importance of preserving historical memory, respecting the courage of our ancestors, and maintaining spiritual connections between generations. During the commemorative event, six saplings were planted, including South African native species and Russian trees, such as viburnum. El cantautor holguinero Norberto Leyva Band, en el 60 aniversario de la Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (#EGREM), que celebra el 31 de marzo, lanza su segundo fonograma "Déjame Soñar": título de una de las 10 obras que lo integran. Carlos Lam, director de la casa discográfica, resaltó el desafío de realizar la producción en tiempos de COVID-19, y la belleza de la obra de Leyva. El apoyo de los estudios de Camagüey y la orquesta Maravilla de Florida fueron resaltados por Samuel, productor y arreglista del disco, que reúne temas de Fernando Cabreja, Alito Abad, entre otros amigos y colegas de Norberto: "un poeta de la música holguinera". La actividad incluyó la presentación de los libros "Contradanzas y Latigazos", del autor Reynaldo González por la editorial Letras Cubanas; y, "La ciudadela vulnerada" de Patrick Bellegarde-Smith. Presentaron las académicas DrC. Marisela Meseguer y M.Sc Bertha Julia Noris Frenel. Se alista en #Holguín un amplio programa de actividades por el aniversario 60 de la Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (#EGREM), que se celebrará el 31 de marzo. En conferencia de prensa Carlos Lam, director de la Empresa desde la filial holguinera, explicó que las celebraciones se extenderán hasta diciembre y se centrarán en las producciones discográficas de Holguín y sus artistas. Dentro del programa se incluyen festejos por la creación de las Casas de la Música de Holguín y Velasco, así como el Centro Cultural Bariay. 🇷🇺🤝🇿🇦Moscow and Tshwane strengthen inter-parliamentary dialogue within #BRICS framework On August 20, 2025, a video conference took place between the Chairman of the #Moscow City Duma, Alexey Shaposhnikov, and the Speaker of the Tshwane City Council (South Africa), Mncedi Ndzwanana. Russian Ambassador to South Africa Roman Ambarov also participated in the meeting. The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring the integration of South African representatives into the BRICS Capitals Parliamentary Movement. 💬 Chairman Alexey Shaposhnikov emphasized that Russia and South Africa share similar perspectives on key global challenges. “Russia and South Africa share common views on major global challenges. The Moscow City Duma is advancing the BRICS Capitals Parliamentary Movement – an initiative aimed at fostering direct ties between legislators of friendly countries at the capital and megacity level, complementing traditional diplomacy with new channels of communication. We are inviting the Tshwane City Council to join this initiative: 11 legislative bodies from other BRICS capitals have already expressed their readiness to participate and sign a joint statement.” Alexey Shaposhnikov also extended an invitation to the Tshwane delegation to attend the BRICS International Municipal Forum, scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg in October 2025.
