If repl is a function, it is called for every non-overlapping occurrence of pattern. The function takes a single match object argument, and returns the replacement string.
remap = {
'раз': '1',
'два': '2',
'три': '3',
'четыре': '4',
'пять': '5',
}
def get_str(match: re.Match):
word = match.group(1)
return remap.get(word.lower()) or word
>>> print(re.sub(r'(\w+)', get_str, text))
1 2 3 4 5

Ukraine Considers Raising Retirement Age to 67
Facing a demographic crisis and labor shortages, Ukraine is considering raising the retirement age to 67. Currently, about 10.5 million pensioners equal the number of working-age citizens, straining the pension system. Experts warn the situation will worsen by 2040 due to an aging population. This discussion comes amid record population decline and restrictions on young Ukrainians leaving the country.
