🌿 From a Garden City to a #CityInNature, making Singapore green to create a quality living environment has been a key goal for urban planners since the 1960s. Explore how our long-term plans over the years have helped to achieve this vision for our city! In our Long-Term Plan Review public engagements, we have heard your ideas for the future of the environment and will continue to prioritise stewarding our natural capital and becoming more climate-ready as we map out plans for the next 50 years and beyond. 👉 Based on your feedback for the #LTPR2021, we have also developed possible planning strategies to guide our long-term plans. 💡 Try something new this school holidays with your kids! Spring onions are not only a common garnish used to flavour soups and dishes, but they’re also one of the easiest edible plants to grow! No soil or seeds required – all you need are leftover spring onions and a jar of water. This form of gardening is known as vegetative propagation – the process of growing using parts of the plant other than its seeds. It’s also the perfect opportunity to teach children about sustainability and food security, in line with our #CityinNature vision, and a key pillar of the #SGGreenPlan for sustainable development. Have fun gardening with your kids! Be sure to snap and share photos of your produce with us in the comments below. More gardening resources can be found here: www.nparks.gov.sg/gardening/gardening-resources

Did you know? The Round Island Route (RIR) is the longest recreational connection that encircles Singapore in the east, stretching across 75km. But this is only Phase One of the project. The completed RIR will be 150km long, as part of NParks’ overall plans to curate a 360km island-wide network of recreational park connectors and trails. This greatly supports our transformation into a City in Nature, a key pillar in the Singapore Green Plan. While we await the RIR’s completion, check out these six key areas that are connected through Phase One of the RIR! #SGParksNRec#CityinNature For more details on each of these areas, go to go.gov.sg/rir-mnd

Do not feed wild animals – they have plenty of food in our natural spaces! 😊 Wild animals also have instinctive hunting and foraging skills. Feeding them may: 🔹 Alter their natural behaviour 🔹 Encourage unsustainable wildlife population growth 🔹 Harm the health of local wildlife ⛔️ To prevent attracting wildlife, remember to not bring in food to nature areas. If you do encounter wildlife as you enjoy our green spaces, please keep a respectful distance and leave them alone 😉 ➡️ Read more at https://go.gov.sg/sgwildlife #DoItRight #CityInNature

During the Circuit Breaker, many physical programmes had to be put on hold. NParks turned to innovative digital solutions as they continued to bring Singaporeans along our journey to transform Singapore into a City in Nature. Our long-time volunteer Dr Shawn Lum, President of Nature Society (Singapore) and a Senior Lecturer at NTU, played a part in turning some of these challenges into opportunities, including bringing Singaporeans on virtual guided walks at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve! It’s #Friyay! 🎉 Have you checked out Rower’s Bay, a tranquil section on the Round Island Route (RIR)? It’s a perfect rest stop that features a boardwalk close to the wetland and a lookout pavilion over Lower Seletar Reservoir. The RIR is part of Singapore’s efforts to provide increased accessibility to nature spaces across the island, and enhance ecological connectivity between our natural habitats. For more on the RIR, visit go.gov.sg/rir-mnd #SGParksNRec#CityinNature
