Leaking pipeline may have not shut down for hours
The pipeline leak that spilled an estimated 3,000 barrels of crude oil into the Pacific off California should have been quickly detected and the flow of oil shut off. The pipeline operator, despite preparation, may have taken hours to stop the leak.

1. A U.S. Christian aid organization said a group of its missionaries had been kidnapped in Haiti, a further sign the Caribbean nation's gangs are growing increasingly brazen amid political and economic crises.
