Report: 52 #Iranian ships breach #US blockade within 72 hours
Fifty two Iranian vessels have crossed a US-imposed blockade of Iranian waters within a 72-hour period, Iran’s Fars News Agency reported.
According to the report, which cited satellite tracking data covering the three days leading up to 10:00 pm local time on Monday, the vessels included 31 oil tankers and 21 cargo ships.
The development follows the announcement by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on 2nd March that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed to maritime traffic, after the outbreak of war between Iran, the United States and Israel on 28th February.
The conflict saw exchanges of attacks between Iran and its adversaries, including strikes on Israeli territory and what Tehran described as US-linked sites across the region.

Oil prices rise after President Trump says #Iranian ship seized
Global oil prices have jumped by more than 5% after #US President Donald Trump said the US had intercepted and seized an Iran-flagged cargo ship.
The Brent crude oil price rose by 5.4% to $95.27 a barrel, while the US benchmark was 5.9% higher at $88.79.
According to the BBC, the increases reversed some of the big falls seen on Friday when Iran had said the Strait of Hormuz would be "completely open" to commercial vessels for the remainder of the ceasefire.
But on Saturday, Iran said it was closing the strait again and that any ship that approached it would be targeted. The waterway is of key importance as usually about 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas passes through it.
Energy markets have seen wild swings since the US and Israel attacked Iran on 28 February and Tehran responded with threats...

Oil prices jump after #US announces maritime blockade on #Iranian ports
Addis Abeba — Global oil prices rose sharply in early trading on Monday, 13 April 2026, following the United States’ announcement that it would enforce a maritime blockade preventing ships from entering or exiting Iranian ports.
According to Al Jazeera, the price of U.S. crude oil surged by 8% to $104.24 per barrel. The international benchmark, Brent crude, also climbed by 7%, reaching $102.29 per barrel.
Bloomberg, citing Onyx, the world’s largest energy market analysis and trading group, reported that global oil prices could rise as high as $150 per barrel if the U.S. proceeds with the blockade.
Prior to the outbreak of U.S.-Israeli military strikes on Iran on 28 February 2026, Brent crude was trading at around $70 per barrel. Since the escalation of the conflict, prices have remained highly volatile, at one point spiking to $119 per barrel.

Opinion: Why #Iranian attacks are a test the #UAE will pass
In this opinion article, Dr. Ebtesam Al Ketbi, president of the Emirates Policy Center (EPC), writes that recent missile and drone attacks by #Iran against Gulf states were “not merely a passing security incident,” but “a real test of state power and the ability to manage complex crises.” According to the author, the experience of the United Arab Emirates shows how modern states can transform crises into sources of strength through “a balanced mix of military strength, institutional resilience and societal stability.”
Dr. Al Ketbi argues that the confrontation demonstrated the results of long-term defense planning in the UAE, where investments have built “an integrated deterrence system capable of addressing modern threats, particularly ballistic missiles and drones.” The successful interception of most attacks, she argues, served as a “practical test of the UAE’s defensive deterrence system,” highlighting the country’s preparedness against modern aerial threats.
Beyond military capacity, the author points to economic stability and social cohesion during the crisis. Markets and institutions continued to function normally, while citizens and residents showed “a clear spirit of solidarity.” Ultimately, Al Ketbi concludes that the UAE “will not emerge from this crisis merely having succeeded in containing its repercussions,” but will come out “stronger, more confident in its capabilities,” and more firmly positioned as a stable regional power.

#China says #Iranian ship intercepted by #US was not a ‘gift’
China’s foreign ministry has rejected the claim by Donald Trump that an Iranian-flagged cargo ship intercepted by US forces was a “gift from China”, adding that the accusation was not based on facts, according to Al Jazeera.
Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun also told reporters that trade between countries should continue as normal.
The US has enforced a naval blockade of Iranian ports and controlled shipping through the Strait of Hormuz for more than a week. In response, Iran has effectively shut the strait, captured commercial vessels and threatened to halt all regional Gulf trade.
Meanwhile, the U.S. has intercepted and redirected three Iranian-flagged oil tankers in waters near India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia, Reuters reported citing shipping sources, potentially heating up the conflict after Iran reportedly seized two ships in the Strait of Hormuz earlier on Wednesday despite an extended ceasefire.

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) said on Saturday that its Al Taweelah production base in the UAE had sustained "significant damage" during Iranian missile and drone attacks.
Reuters cited the company’s statement as saying that a number of EGA employees were injured in the attacks on the Khalifa Economic Zone in Abu Dhabi, the company said in a statement, adding that none of the injuries were life-threatening.
The safety and security of our people is our top priority at EGA at all times," EGA CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said in the statement. "We are deeply saddened and are assessing the damage to our facilities."
Most aluminium producers in the Gulf, which account for around 9% of global supply, have been unable to ship metal to world markets via their normal channels since the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran began, due to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

#Just_in: #US Central Command to begin maritime blockade on #Iranian ports following President Trump’s warning
Addis Abeba — The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced it will begin enforcing a maritime blockade on all traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports starting April 13 at 10:00 a.m. ET, in line with a directive issued by U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a statement released an hour ago, #CENTCOM said the blockade would be applied “impartially” to vessels of all nations operating in and out of Iranian ports and coastal areas, including along the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
The command, however, said U.S. forces would not interfere with freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, provided they are traveling to or from non-Iranian ports.
CENTCOM added that additional guidance will be issued to commercial shipping operators through formal maritime notices ahead of the blockade’s implementation.
