🌐The Patent Boom: Generative AI on the Rise The World Intellectual Property Organization’s latest Patent Landscape Report on Generative AI sheds light on the explosive growth of GenAI-related innovations. Since 2014, over "54,000 patent families" and "75,000 scientific publications" have emerged. In 2023 alone, more than 25% of all GenAI patents globally were published, highlighting the rapid acceleration of this field. While GenAI patents still account for only "6% of all AI patents globally", their diversity is remarkable. Image and video data dominate the landscape (17,996 inventions), followed by text and speech/music applications. Industries leveraging GenAI span from life sciences to transportation, with new applications in molecule and protein-based data seeing an annual growth of 78% over the past five years.
