"This is the tragedy: Consciousness has forced us into the paradoxical position of striving to be unselfconscious of what we are -- hunks of spoiling flesh on disintegrating bones." Thomas Ligotti, The Conspiracy Against The Human Race, p. 11 #thomasligotti AETATESOLIS

Legendary Death Metal band Pestilence have come under some fire for using an AI generated album cover recently (which they then replaced with human-made art due to backlash). Their defence of their decision exposes the short-sightedness of musicians who go down this route. "Are we so caught up in the past that that we do not embrace technology?" And how about when that same technology is used to replace YOU, Mr Musician? How about when Spotify and streaming services start offering listeners a new 'generate your own bespoke music' option, and brain-dead consumers start opting for that instead of listening to your music? (I'm pretty sure this is coming, and Spotify et al will push it with glee because instead of the $0.00001 per stream they pay bands now, they get to pay $0.00000). How about when bands utilise AI generated drum tracks that are faster and tighter than your drummer who's spent 40 years honing his craft, but the listener doesn't care because he's too busy "embracing technology"? How about when bands use AI to generate their lyrics and fans praise them more than yours? How will you feel then? The point is - no-one will be able to contain AI, or limit it to the peripheral, more mundane tasks associated with a creative project. You can't defend it on the grounds that "it only does the meaningless stuff" or "the stuff humans can't afford to do", because the nature of this competitive society means that someone else will use AI outside of your self-defined limits to get ahead of you. And then it's just a race to the bottom, where the most famous 'musicians' are nothing more than extroverted pretty faces on social media who write a few prompts to generate music and images whilst sat on the toilet.

Specialization is for insects and incels. You need to develop more than 1 skill as a man. A one-trick pony is cool 1 time. The man who has a vast amount of skills and knowledge within different domains is someone people go to for help and advice. If you only stay in 1 lane, you become boring and only useful to others one time every blue moon. If you develop multiple skills you are interesting to be around. Some easy skills that can make you pop out are: Learn a foreign language. Learn an instrument. Learn a 2nd trade or skill for income. Train a sport you are interested in; many good business and life connections can be made by playing tennis or at a high-end boxing club, you start out at the baseline of having something in common. Develop your mind daily, read odd books, and deep dive into stuff like gut health, hormonal optimization, or something else that interests you. By making a habit of learning new things, you become a very interestingly put-together person. -The Scandinavian Colonist

Fall of the USSR December 25, 1991 - At around 7:32 PM, the flag of the Soviet Union is lowered from the Kremlin for the last time. In its place, the flag featuring the traditional Russian tricolors is raised at 8:00 PM. Simultaneously, Mikhail Gorbachev resigned from his position as Soviet President, and handed his power to Boris Yeltsin. The Soviet Union was the world's first Communist nation, established on December 30, 1922. At the height of its existence, it was the largest country in the world, and shared borders with 12 other countries. On December 26, 1991, the USSR officially dissolved, and was transformed into the Russian Federation. #ussr#russia AETATESOLIS
