Coming just after the fall of the Soviet Union, the concert drew a crowd estimated between 500,000 and 1.6 million people. With Soviet soldiers standing guard, the crowds of young Russians headbanged to "Enter Sandman" as helicopters fly back and forth from above. Fall of the USSR December 25, 1991 - At around 7:32 PM, the flag of the Soviet Union is lowered from the Kremlin for the last time. In its place, the flag featuring the traditional Russian tricolors is raised at 8:00 PM. Simultaneously, Mikhail Gorbachev resigned from his position as Soviet President, and handed his power to Boris Yeltsin. The Soviet Union was the world's first Communist nation, established on December 30, 1922. At the height of its existence, it was the largest country in the world, and shared borders with 12 other countries. On December 26, 1991, the USSR officially dissolved, and was transformed into the Russian Federation. #ussr#russia AETATESOLIS
