🏛️Did you know that while the modern Kyrgyz Republic celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs is already 82 years old? 🕊️🇰🇬 The foundations of our foreign policy were laid long before independence. In February 1944, a pivotal law granted union republics the authority to engage in external relations, leading to the formation of what was then the People’s Commissariat of Foreign Affairs. Since 1944, the Kyrgyzstan MFA (and its predecessor agency) has been led by five distinguished women: - Kuluypa Konduchalova (1953-1963); - Sakin Begmatova (1963-1980); - Dzhamal Tashibekova (1980-1986); - Zhanyl Tumenbayeva (1989-1991). And of course, Roza Otunbayeva, who served multiple times (1986–1989, 1992, 1994–1997, 2005) before going on to become the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and currently serving as the Head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). This colossal project, created in 2014 to safeguard and celebrate the unique culture and traditional sports of nomadic civilizations, is returning to its homeland for the VI Games from August 31 to September 6, 2026. These Games are more than just sports; they are a major platform for cultural diplomacy and global networking. Kyrgyzstan initiated this global movement and is proud to be hosting it for the fourth time. Since joining the UN, Kyrgyzstan has been a dynamic force in the General Assembly, securing long-term international recognition in three key areas: 🔹Mountain Leadership: Kyrgyzstan is the world’s leading advocate for mountains, initiating the Five Years of Action for Mountain Development (2023–2027) and establishing the International Day of the Snow Leopard (October 23). It also founded the Group of Friends of Mountain Countries (31 members). 🔹Security & Social Justice: The country successfully championed the International Day of Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness (March 5) and was instrumental in creating the World Day of Social Justice (February 20).
