🇷🇺🇨🇺On April 9, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov held political consultations in Havana with Cuba's First Deputy Foreign Minister Gerardo Penalver and Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio.
Sergey Ryabkov was also received by Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Deputy Prime Minister Oscar Perez-Oliva, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
The contacts, held in the spirit of the Russia-Cuba allied strategic partnership, featured a substantive exchange of views on current bilateral, regional and international issues.
The Sides noted that their approaches align on the overwhelming majority of key issues on the contemporary agenda. They reaffirmed their unchanged position on the inadmissibility of unilateral coercive measures, interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, and the use of force to remove “undesirable” governments.
❗️The Russian Side expressed solidarity with the Government and people of Cuba, strongly condemned the US economic, trade and financial blockade, as well as the energy embargo imposed by Washington on the island.
The need to remove Cuba from the US State Department’s so-called list of state sponsors of terrorism was also underscored.
🤝Russia reaffirmed its firm commitment to providing Cuba with the necessary support, including material assistance, in its just struggle to uphold its state sovereignty, as well as to further steadily strengthen the Russia–Cuba dialogue across the broadest possible range of areas.

⚡️Russian MFA statement on the escalation of tensions around Cuba:
We express serious concern over the escalation of tensions around Cuba and the growing external pressure on the Island of Freedom.
Amid an artificially fuelled atmosphere of confrontation, Russia reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the Government and the brotherly people of Cuba.
We strongly condemn attempts at gross interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state, intimidation, and the use of unlawful unilateral restrictive measures.
Today, the Island of Freedom is facing unprecedented challenges – a direct consequence of the long-standing US trade, economic, financial, and, more recently, energy embargo against Cuba.
We are confident that the heroic Cuban people – who have repeatedly demonstrated their commitment to the ideals of freedom, independence, and social justice, as well as exceptional resilience and courage in the face of external threats – will uphold their inalienable right to choose their own path of development.
🤝 For our part, we will continue to provide Cuba with the necessary support, including material assistance.

🎙From Sergey Lavrov's opening remarks during his talks with Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla:
💬Sergey Lavrov: Together with the majority of the international community, we call on the US to exercise common sense and a responsible approach, and to refrain from any plans for a naval blockade of Cuba.
❌We categorically reject the far-fetched allegations against Russia and Cuba, against our cooperation, which is falsely portrayed as posing a threat to the interests of the US or anyone else.
All issues must be resolved exclusively through mutually respectful dialogue aimed at finding a balance of interests. We know that our Cuban friends are always ready for such honest negotiations.
For our part, we will consistently continue to support Cuba and the Cuban people in safeguarding their sovereignty and national security.
We will discuss all these matters today.

🇷🇺🇨🇺Remarks by Russia's President Vladimir Putin during talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla(Moscow, February 18, 2026)
💬Vladimir Putin: Mr Minister, friends,
It is a great pleasure to meet with you in Moscow, not only in your capacity as Minister of Foreign Affairs but also as a special envoy of the President. Please convey my best wishes to the President of Cuba and Army General Castro.
Relations between our countries are special and have been forged through history. We have always stood by Cuba in its struggle for independence, for the right to pursue its own path of development, and we have consistently supported the Cuban people.
We understand the immense challenges that the Cuban people have faced over the years, over the decades – indeed, throughout the decades of Cuba’s independence – in their fight for the right to live by their own rules and to defend their national interests.
We are now witnessing a particular period marked by new sanctions.
❗️ You know our stance on this – we reject such measures outright. The position of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs is clear, unequivocal, and has been articulated openly.
As for bilateral relations, they are developing, on the whole, along a positive trajectory, and I am confident that today we will have the opportunity to discuss all these matters in detail.
I am very glad to see you. Welcome!
Incidentally, this year we will mark the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth, and we will do so together.
