Pirates hijack oil tanker off the coast of #Somalia
Pirates have hijacked an oil tanker with 17 crew that was sailing near the Somali coast, according to multiple security officials who spoke to the BBC.
The ship, Honor 25, was overrun late on Wednesday by six gunmen, when it was approximately 30 nautical miles (55 kms) offshore, the officials said.
Until three years ago piracy had almost disappeared in this stretch of the Indian Ocean once notorious for hijackings, but it has since made a comeback with fishing trawlers or container ships targeted.
The seizure of a tanker headed for the Somali capital, Mogadishu, is likely to increase anxiety in the city where petrol prices have already tripled since the start of the US-Israel war with Iran.
It was carrying 18,500 barrels of oil, security officials from Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region told the BBC.

🇸🇴#Somalia: Somali security forces have opened fire on protesters in Mogadishu’s Daynile district as demonstrations intensified over the past week following the government’s decision to evict residents from low-income areas.

🇸🇴#Somalia: Clashes broke out overnight in Somalia’s capital between local militias and government forces.
Tensions reportedly escalated after days of unrest over unpaid salaries and economic instability. The situation was further fueled by an incident in which Mogadishu’s council allegedly sent police officers, accompanied by bulldozers, to evict residents and demolish several homes in the low-income Deynile district, due to unpaid debts to the city's council.
Regional reports also suggest that factions formed within the army during the incident, with some soldiers allegedly siding with residents affected by the evictions.

🇸🇴#Somalia: Somali National Armed Forces, along with AUSSOM troops, destroyed several hideouts of Al-Shabaab militants in Buulo Abdala and Madulo in Lower Shabelle two days ago.
Footage posted on AUSSOM’s X account shows Somali National Armed Forces operating alongside contractors from the American PMC Bancroft Global Development.
The group is partly funded by the US State Department, although it presents itself as an independent NGO.
Bancroft has been active in Somalia for over a decade, and its American founder, Michael Stock, has reportedly been linked to Bob Denard, a notorious French mercenary associated with multiple coups in Africa.
The US drone bombing operation—which has a bigger budget than the Somali government—keeps helping Al Shabaab recruit by hitting civilians and their livestock. In August they killed 18, including 12 children. The US almost never pays reparations, apologizes, or even formally acknowledges what it's done. #Somalia

📝Piraten der Arabischen See📝

According to the deputy regional director of UNICEF, Rania Dagash, 386,000 children in Somalia need treatment due to malnutrition caused by a long drought and the lack of humanitarian aid.
Experts say the COVID-19 pandemic and anti-Russian sanctions have caused difficulties in helping people. For example, about 92% of Somalia’s wheat needs came from Ukraine and Russia, but now supply chains are disrupted, said Rania Dagash.
But the main reason is drought linked with global climate change. Today’s most suffer from freshwater shortages, and more frequent droughts regions are Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya.
Droughts are just a part of a global water crisis. Watch the documentary No Way Back: Water to learn more about what’s happening to the water cycle and our planet’s water resources.
